Traffic Unit
The Traffic Unit is responsible for providing assistance in an unarmed capacity. The duties they perform include areas such as traffic control, community engagement, and other tasks where an unarmed presence is not required. This unit is ideal for those who want to serve the community with the KCSO and do not have the desire to carry a firearm or complete the extra training required for the Enforcement Unit members.
Traffic Unit members are required to work a minimum number of Special Events annually. Requests to assist with Crowd and Traffic Control at events constitute a significant portion of the unit’s activities from May through October.
The unit not only assists the Department with Special Events, but also all law enforcement agencies and communities in Kent County as needed.
Traffic Unit training consists of 4 initial courses and is held as an introduction to the team, prior to offering the option to pursue the full academy and join the Enforcement Unit.
